Pickles and Lettuce…….

October 7th, 2008

Is there any lie which the corporate media won’t swallow when it comes to oil?

Unfortunately, it’s not difficult to pinpoint the corporate media’s fall from somewhat impartial observer to outright propagandist.

It all began with the Bush mother lie, the whopper which justified the invasion of Iraq and evolved into the forever shifting rationale for the United State’s continued occupation of this oil rich country.

First, the U.S. invaded Iraq because Saddam was part of the 9-11 plot and his WMD’s were about to rain down on the United States.

Next, the occupation was billed as a freedom fighting exercise to remove a nasty dictator who did terrible things to his own people and even worst to his enemies.

Finally, the real reason the United States invaded a sovereign nation was to bringing democracy to Iraq and by extension the Middle East.

The corporate media happily embraced each of these lies in turn and without question, passing on one untruth after another without a tinge of guilt or remorse–all the while ignoring the simplest and most elegant explanation.

It’s all about the oil stupid!

More precisely, it’s about securing the land over the oil.  In today’s market, oil appreciates faster in the ground than at the pump. That’s why Bush wants permanent bases in Iraq.

Plus, if you pump the oil now you increase supply, which lowers the price and paradoxically makes the dwindling oil supply not in production even more valuable.

Now, Bush, forever the oil industry stooge, has decided to bring this strategy home by demanding the ban on off-shore oil drilling be lifted in order to provide Americans relief at the pump.

Never mind that it will take at least 10 years for this oil to hit the market or that, according to the League of Conservation Voters, “oil and gas companies have stockpiled leases for nearly 70 million acres of public lands and waters that they are currently not using”.

Lucky for Bush, every day is Groundhog Day, in America’s newsrooms.
